Welcome to the virtual programme for the Europe Fintech Awards 2023. Below you’ll find everything you need to know about the awards ceremony, from who’s hosting and what’s on the menu, to the all-important shortlist.
Kicking off the programme below is an introduction from Robrecht Vendormael, secretary general of Payments Europe, who chaired the independent judging panel. Good luck to each and every finalist!
It is with great pleasure that I, on behalf of the Europe FinTech Awards, welcome you all to this year’s ceremony to celebrate fintechs across Europe.
My name is Robrecht Vandormael, secretary general of Payments Europe, the European association of payments providers in Europe. It is my privilege to chair this year’s judging panel, and together with my fellow judges, been given the opportunity to discover more about the exciting businesses that you are all part of.
The last year has not been the easiest for fintechs. The economic situation changed, due to geopolitical and macro-economic developments including security concerns, high inflation, increasing interest rates, and less access to funding.
Despite these challenges, the fintech sector in Europe has showed that it is robust and resilient. It can stand up against economic cycles and continue to disrupt. Indeed, in today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, fintechs continue to be a catalyst of change, redefining the way we use technology and do finance.
Fintech is making banking more convenient, pensions more accessible, it democratises investment opportunities and helps businesses in their onboarding and compliance. It allows individuals to engage in peer-to-peer lending, simplifies payments by offering secure and instant transactions, and through data analytics and AI, fintech enables personalised financial recommendations, helping consumers make more informed decisions.
All in all, fintechs have revolutionised—and continue to do so—the market by empowering individuals and businesses to seize new opportunities and drive economic growth.
As fintechs grow, we must not lose sight of our purpose and the positive impact it can have on society. Let us remember that with innovation comes responsibility. As leaders in this field, we must champion ethical practices, data privacy, and security to build trust and ensure the sustainable growth of our industry. Fintech should be a force of change and a force for good.
Tonight, we come together to celebrate. When considering the award’s entries, it has been a very difficult task to select the finalists and winners. Entries were at an exceptional high standard—reflecting the state of the art of the industry. And whether winners or not, the fact that we had so many excellent entries is something that we should all collectively celebrate tonight.
I would like to express a big thanks to all participants and those who contributed to the submissions. I would like to thank my fellow judges and of course the organisers of the awards. I look forward to raising a glass to all of you who make Europe’s fintech sector world class.
Thank you and have a great night.
